UPCOMING CHAPTER 96 ELECTIONS

As you can see above, the date of the annual meeting of members for 2008 has been set for a SATURDAY.  This is an experiment to see how many out-of-town chapter members will attend.  Any member wishing to be nominated for elective office in Chapter 96 should contact Nominations Committee Chair Allen Beal.  E-mail Allen at: allen.beal@vva96.org or call the Hootch at 224-8838 and leave a message for Allen.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greeting to all.  Springtime is upon us, and Spring brings a flurry of activities for Chapter 96.  I mentioned the car, truck, and motorcycle show in my last message.  The Capital City Classic Chevy Club is donating the proceeds to the chapter from this event which is now less than a month away.   Chapter 96 members are needed to help with that event, cooking , judging show entries, and whatever may come up.  Sign up if you're interested.  Special thanks to Reuben Plachy and Charlie Yonts for all their work on this.

An agreement has been signed for Chapter 96 to bring the Traveling Vietnam Memorial wall to Tallahassee for a week in conjunction with Veterans Day actives this November.   Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Department has issued a permit allowing the Wall to be placed in the park on the shoreline near the gazebo across Lake Ella from the Hootch.  This  will be quite an endeavor and will take many hours of work by volunteers.

Our February Chapter 96 membership meeting will be a social at the Hootch.  Our bank, Peoples First Community Bank, has agreed to cater... and, yes, the bank is paying... so don't be shy; but it is important that you rsvp, so call Bob Flanagan if you plan to attend.  See ya there!

Robert H. Jenkins Veterans Domiciliary

Back in 2005 the VA granted almost 3/4 million dollars to Florida to renovate the state domiciliary ("veterans home") in Lake City.  Those renovations partially limited access to the facility while underway, but were recently finished, and the improved home is now available for occupancy up to its full capacity.  I don't know how many of you are really familiar with the domiciliary.  At least one Chapter 96 member that I know of lived there awhile, as did my father.  It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's not a bad place, if the need arises.  In spite of the "nursing" in the URL, the Robert H. Jenkins Veterans Domiciliary is NOT a nursing home:
